It's been a big year for The Answer as the largely Northern Irish hard rockers follow the recording of their second album with a US tour opening for AC/DC

Ensconced on the band's tourbus somewhere between Minneapolis and Denver, The Answer's frontman Cormac Neeson reflects on a hectic few months and touring with rock royalty...

Suite 101: How’s the tour with AC/DC been going?

Cormac Neeson: “It’s going great. We’re currently on our way to Denver and I think we’re just past the halfway point of this particular leg and we get home on Christmas Eve. We’re actually noticing now as we’re moving across America that the crowd are responding to us more every night. It leads us to believe that maybe word might be spreading about The Answer, which is a very positive thing. There tend to be more and more people in the arena early so where we were playing to maybe 70 or 80 per cent before, we’re now playing to full arenas, which is great.

The Answer on Tour with AC/DC

Cormac: “Originally we were told it was going to be a very hard slot to fill. AC/DC hadn’t been on tour for seven years but their crowds do seem to have been responding to us really well.”

Suite 101: Are you getting used to playing on big stages to a sea of people now?

Cormac: “We are getting used to it, yeah. We used to go out every chance we got to soundcheck and suss out the stage and get used to it. At a lot of shows we’re lucky if we get a linecheck but that doesn’t really matter because we’ve done it so often now we can just step up and take it in our stride.”

The Answer Appear on Late Show With David Letterman

Suite 101: How surreal was it appearing on the Late Show the other week?

Cormac: “On the Letterman show? It was great. It was quite surreal but to tell you the truth I don’t think anybody was particularly nervous about it all – we really enjoyed it. The people there are very efficient – it’s a very professional team that they have working backstage at that thing, which made it very easy for us to just get up and do our thing.”

Previous Shows with The Who and Aerosmith

Suite 101: You’ve played with the likes of The Who and Aerosmith and now AC/DC…have you had a chance to just step back and reflect on the past couple of years?

Cormac: “Well there was a bit of time because we took six months to do an album, which was ample time to take stock on everything that had happened up ‘til that point. But yeah, some of our experiences have been very humbling. We’re always willing to take a step back and realise we’re lucky mother****ers here, y’know? I think you have to try and make the most of it – you don’t want to **** it up or mess up these opportunities when they do arrive. We just keep working hard and doing what we do and hope that we keep moving forward.”
